FAQs

 

Q: How long is a half-day outing?

A: Half-day outings are 4 hours.

 

Q: How long is a full day outing?

A: Full-day outings are 7.5 hours.

Q: What to bring on the trip?

A: Please bring Hat, Sunglasses, Weather appropriate clothing, your personal medications (EX: Insulin, Epi-Pen). A Small tote or Backpack is ideal for keeping your personal items together.

Q: How long is a float trip?

A: Float trips are typically 6-to-8 hours. River flow influences the time it takes to float from the upriver "put-in" to the downriver "take-out". 

​

Q: Are multi day trips available?

A: Multi day trips are available and quite fun! The cost of a multi day is determined according to the plan that I plan with you.

​

Q: Can you accommodate a group of 4 or more?

A: To provide the best experience for large groups I partner with another 1 or 2 local guides, depending on the group size. We then go out on the same body of water and fish and explore as a group. This is a fun way to spend the day.

Q: How many people can you accommodate?

A: Our trips are designed for two anglers, a third is welcome for an additional fee. Occasionally four anglers can work. Contact MOG for details. 

 

Q: How many people can you accommodate on a float trip?

A: Our float trips are limited to two anglers.

​

Q: Do I need a fishing license or permit?

A: Yes, a fishing permit (no cost) is required for saltwater fishing. A fishing license is required for freshwater and inland fishing.

-Maine Outdoor Guides will provide single day licenses or permits.  PURCHASE YOUR MAINE FISHING LICENSE

 

Q: Do I need fishing tackle and gear?

A: NO!! MaineOutdoorGuides provides all fishing tackle and gear including Fly Rods and gear. Please feel free to bring your own, if you like.

Q: Is food available?

A: YES

- Half-day outings include bottled water, sports drink, and a variety of snacks such as trail mix, fresh fruit, and -cheese and crackers.*  

-Full-day outings include a FULL LUNCH**, typically a sandwich, chips, bottled water, sports drink, and a variety of snacks such as trail mix, fresh fruit.*

Q:Where do we fish?:

A: Maine Outdoor Guides is based in Camden, Maine.

WE FISH MID-COAST MAINE  and select Central Maine and DownEast locations including the Penobscot Bay, Megunticook Lake( Our home water) and many other local lakes, ponds, and rivers.  the Famous Belgrade Lakes and China Lakes regions, as well as the Penobscot and Androscoggin Rivers, and more.

 

Q: What do we fish for?:

A: We Fish for: Striped Bass, Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass, Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout. PLUS special spots for Northern Pike and American Shad. 

            

Q:What gear is used?:

 A: Maine Outdoor Guides provides:        

  • High quality spinning and casting gear, and top quality lines and tackle.

  • Dependable quality fly fishing rods and reels from 4 weight to 9 weight.

  • Quality floating and sinking fly lines from Rio and AirFlo Flyline.

  • Custom floating and sinking shooting head and shooting line outfits made and 

         refined by Andrew Skrivanich for distance and depth, technical applications and presentations.

Q: What type of water do you fish?:

A: Maine Outdoor Guides fishes:

LAKES and BAYs from our 19'  Alumacraft center console fishing boat equipped with everything you need. 

​

RIVERS we fish from our FLYCRAFT drift raft, specially made for fishing and no more serene way to experience the wild fish and rivers of Maine.

​

ON FOOT we wade fish, hiking or driving from spot to spot along whichever river we may be fishing. 

​

       * Food choices can be substituted to accommodate food allergies and preferences.

      **Lunches can be made to order. Costs for "market rate" and other special items will be additional to trip cost.
